How we tackle Scope 2 Emissions
Our integrated approach to eliminating indirect emissions and reducing carbon footprint.

With the aim of reducing organisational Carbon Footprint, and Scope 2 emissions in particular, Cozzani implemented a two-pillar strategy.

The Switch to Renewables

The first pillar is the switch to electric energy from renewable sources. To do so, Cozzani took action on both energy consumption and production.

100% green energy supply

We set an ambitious goal and made our choice accordingly“, says Michele Pucci, Finance & Administration Manager.

Cozzani signed a Purchase Agreement meeting 100% of the energy need, both for offices and shopfloors, with certified renewable energy.

By purchasing electrical energy entirely produced from renewable sources, we reduced our Carbon Footprint of Organisation abundantly.”

Accelerating solar energy own production

Cozzani is not new to solar panel installations, but in the last years, Cozzani accelerated investment on photovoltaic systems, on top of Cozzani facilities’ roofs.

The importance of energy security became evident in the last years”, continues Mr. Pucci.
Therefore, the choice of investing in solar panels was driven by both sustainability and risk management. By so doing, we aim at reducing our exposure to energy price fluctuations.”

Cozzani installed two new photovoltaic systems, also thanks to the the support of Liguria Regional Programme FESR 2021-27, and Next Generation EU funds.

The Efficiency Key

The second pillar of Cozzani’s approach is energy efficiency.

A comprehensive set of interventions has been implemented, leading to relevant energy savings and relying on state-of-the-art technology.

Improvements include:

  • the installation of a smart hybrid heating system, based on solar panels and heat pumps, able to switch to the most efficient energy source based on live-monitored parameters such as weather conditions;
  • the installation of Variable Refrigerant Flow systems for HVAC;
  • double-layer thermal insulation systems applied on existing buildings.

Our approach

The recent investments demonstrate that we are focusing on real carbon footprint reduction, instead of implementing a compensatory approach“, says Alessandro Vollonnino, Quality and HSE Manager.

Energy saving is in our DNA. This is witnessed not only by our waste-reduction mindset, but also by our corporate mission.

Cozzani’s core product portfolio includes energy savings products, such as high-efficiency compressor valves, and stepless capacity control systems, allowing relevant energy savings for end-users.

The road ahead

Cozzani approach is giving relevant results in terms of energy savings, carbon dioxide reduction, and independence from gas as energy source.

The improvements made in the last years are not stand-alone.
The new main building extension is conceived with state-of-the-art construction criteria, including efficient thermal insulation systems and solar panels on the roof. “This new system will contribute to increasing own-produced solar energy“, continues Mr. Vollonnino, “and we expect to cover more than 15% of our energy need with our own photovoltaic systems“.
